Paulette Poujol-Oriol

Poujol-Oriol was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1926, where she passed away in 2011. She belonged to the National Society of Dramatic Arts and actively participated in the composition of radio, television and theatre pieces. In 1980, she was awarded the Henri Deschamps Prize for her social novel Le Creuset; her second novel Le Pasage was published in 1996. Her narrative focuses on her characters’ social compromise and moral options, examining the vast complexity and the socioeconomic problems of Haiti. The author collaborated with numerous newspapers and journals and was a president of the Female League for Social Action. Her short stories were collected and published in the title La Fleur Rouge in 1992.
