Liliane Dévieux

Liliane Dévieux was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1942. She studied in the Haitian capital and in Montreal. Her published novel L’Amour oui, l’amour non (1976), is one of the very few Caribbean oeuvres that examine the devastating effect of the Vietnam War in the region; it won the Prix littéraire des Caraïbes in 1977; her short-stories have been published in various literary journals. Her work explores both the economic and political migration to Canada, as well as the lasting impact that traditional models of relationships between men and women have. She is the author of the testimonial essay Cuba Libre (2001) and has been an editor of the anthology of short stories and poems for Haitian children L’Experience ti pye zoranj monte (1984). Liliane Dévieux is a researcher in the University of Montreal and a broadcast journalist of literary programs for Radio Canada, among other stations.
